Rite of Children’s Baptism: Important information
The Archbishop of the Archdiocese of Glasgow since about two years or so gave permission for baptism to be administered to children between the ages of 1 month to 14years using the Rite for Children’s baptism. What this means is that teenagers under the age of fifteenth are no longer required to do Catechumenate programme before being baptised. For more information on this please contact the Parish Priest.
Sacrament of Reconciliation
Our parish Primary 3 schoolchildren will receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation (First Confession) on March 28that 1.30pm in St Martin’s Church. Catechesis classes will be held on 18th and 25th March respectively, in the Church Sacristy from 10.30 – 12 noon. Please remember these children and all our children in your prayers.
Lenten alms
During the weekends of Lent (with the exception of 4th Sunday of Lent: 26th March. S.C.I.A.F Sunday) we are asked to take up a retiral collection after each Mass which forms our ‘Lenten Alms’. This collection taken throughout the Archdiocese helps to support our sick and retired clergy. Fr Anthony thanks you most sincerely for your concern and kindness to his brother priests.
St Martin’s Webpage
We now have a page for St Martin of Tours parish. The link is: www.stmartinoftours.rcglasgow.orf.uk With your help we intend to build it up in the coming months. If anyone would like to add items, become involved etc. see Fr Anthony or any member of the PPC.
Sick and Housebound Visits
The season of Lent is a time to reflect and prepare for the Easter celebrations. If you or someone you know would like a home visit from Fr
Anthony to receive the Sacraments of Communion and or Reconciliation (confession) please let him know. You may phone him on 01389 758880.
S.C.I.A.F.
Next Sunday (Fourth Sunday of Lent) is SCIAF collection and this is the main time for their fundraising in the Liturgical year. The income so raised is essential for the maintenance of their long-term development work in countries year after year. The Bishop’s Conference of Scotland has asked Bishop Toal to write to all parishes urging people to be extra generous in their donations on this SCIAF Sunday especially in the face of the current East African food crises occasioned by famines. You can also give to this special Appeal via their website, or telephone or post (www.sciaf.org.uk / 0141 354 5555 / SCIAF 19 Park Circus, Glasgow G3 6BE).
